The Buddy System of Adventuring
Each group of 2 boys or 2 girls brings along their own “buddy team gear” consisting of the best, lightest, most proven items. These are provided by the Renewable World Foundation for use on the trips.

MSR water filter (field fixable) and 2 water bottles
Coleman stove
Fuel/fuel filter
bowls,cups,sporks
Nylon bags for hanging food
Canoes, life jackets, paddles
Backpacks, dry bags
Each member of the team also brings their own : Don’t overpack- the kids can wash and dry their clothes on the trip in the rivers and lakes. Remember, they need to carry their gear in backpacks and if canoeing may need to portage.
Gear list for backpacking (you will be washing some on the trip)
- Multiple (equal to days) pair of socks (thin liner socks) and 2-3 pair outer thick (wool) (for backpacking)
o Two pair of underwear and t-shirt
o Shorts
o 100% polyester Fleece sweatshirt/jacket
o Easy dry long pants
o Stocking hat or sun hat (depends on where you are hiking and time of year)
o Thin gloves
o Sun glasses, Sun screen/block, Dry skin cream, chapstick, insect repellant
o Rain gear – top and bottom (best type
o Flashlight – small
o First aid kit – personal
o small knife or multi tool
o Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, large zips to contain them
o Hiking boots (make sure they are roomy enough with the 2 pairs of socks and camp shoes (sandals , water shoes or flip flops)
o Map compass
o Whistle
- 50-100 ft rope(paracord to hang food at night)
o Extra zip bags ( gallon size -to use for garbage and keeping things dry)
Toothbrush, toothpaste, small towel, toilet paper (2) in zip bag, lighter for stoves

Canoeing Gear list
o Two pair of underwear and t-shirt

o Thin gloves(for when your hands start to get blisters)

o Fishing rod and small plastic container of hooks and lures(don’t bring your whole tackle box)
o Flashlight
o First aid kit – personal
o Knife or multi tool (filet knife for fish-with sheath)
o Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, large ziplock bags to contain them
o water shoes and camp shoes (can be old tennis shoes and sandals for camp)
o Compass
o Whistle
